Location: Aomori and Sapporo, Japan.
We timed our visit to the northern part of Japan perfectly and had a full week of cherry blossoms. I took every opportunity I could to walk through the cherry blossom tunnel in Hirosaki. It was so magical!
Mid week we stayed in a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) with an onsen (natural hot spring) and no electricity. I learned that I could definitely get used to the ryokan life of living in my kimono, enjoying delicious meals of little plates full of surprising ingredients and delectable flavors, and being soothed by the healing minerals in the onsens every day. I was in heaven.
Our trip to Sapporo was quick, only 3 nights! But we packed a lot in. We toured the Sapporo brewery museum and tasted a few beers, rode bikes through Biei (which is known as the Provence of Japan), and checked out the Blue Pond. We also ate delicious miso ramen (which originated in Sapporo), soup curry (Indian curry with Japanese ingredients) and supermarket sushi that blew the sushi we’d had the night before (and waited 2 hours for!) out of the water!
It was both a busy and relaxing week!
Today we are headed to Tokyo where Mr’s sister and her partner are meeting us for a week! I am pretty excited to see some familiar faces and explore Tokyo with two of our fave travel buddies!
