I find myself longing to be back in New York City as often as I long to be back in the Bay Area. When we get a chance to spend some time in NYC (and I make it point to get us there at least twice a year) there are two lists that I use to plan our trip. First: the list of places/activities we’ve wanted to try. I like to experience at least one new thing in NYC during each trip. Second: the list of our quintessential NYC adventures that we will go out of our way to make happen on each and every trip. These are the experiences I find myself longing for the most so I have to get my fix each time to hold me over until our next trip.
Currently at the top of our “To Try” list: Chinese Tuxedo in Chinatown , David’s Brisket House in Bed Stuy (said to be a better pastrami sandwich than either Katz or Carnegie has), Di Faro Pizza, and a Yankees game.
We keep the “Must Do/See” contained to these things: bagels (usually from Brooklyn Bagel Company in Chelsea, tho I have been craving the guacamole cream cheese I got at Bagel Pub in Crown Heights last time we were there), coffee from Lula Bean in East Williamsburg, slices of pizza from 99 Cents Fresh Pizza on 6th Ave in Greenwich Village, getting the most out of our MetroCard 7 day pass, playing the lottery for a handful of Broadway shows, walking through Washington Square Park, running across the Brooklyn Bridge or through Central Park and dining at one of Rob’s favorite restaurants, Toad Style, in Bed Stuy.
Luckily for us, we are currently en route to NYC! For weeks I’ve been looking forward to checking new things off our list, visiting all our old haunts and spending copious amounts of time with our friends!
