A few years ago an idea crept into my head, made itself at home, and grew into a strong desire that has been the backbone of our life plans since we got married: I am eager to travel the world and I am eager to travel it with Rob. While a good number of people have this same dream of traveling the world with their partner, the catch for us is that I want to do it before we have kids. Of course, I look forward to taking our kids to far off places and showing them the world, but I want to be selfish a bit longer and experience it all with just Rob by my side.
I’ve been determined to make this dream a reality and the stars have finally aligned for us-- or at least, we decided they have aligned enough. So...we booked the first part of our trip! We leave at the end of December and we will be starting in Thailand at our favorite resort from our honeymoon.
From there the plans are loose and only follow a general structure. We will spend a few months traveling around Southeast Asia, trying our best to settle down in a few places and make sure our work/travel life is balanced. From there we will head to a few northern Asian countries, basically following the sun. At the beginning of the summer, if life and work allow, we will continue our journey in Europe and spend the last six months making our way up and down the continent, with an adventure somewhere in there to Africa.
I am excited to spend the next several months researching places to visit and experiences we should have, being careful not to plan too much. We want to be able to have a little spontaneity in our travels to go somewhere not on our radar. I am also looking forward to convincing close friends and family to meet us at some point during our year abroad. While I am looking forward to experiencing all these different cultures with Rob, I would also love to share as much of this experience with our friends and family too. So friends, let us know of a place you’ve been itching to visit and we can meet you there!
