Two days before I left for a two part trip (first to Cancun and then to Argentina) I became the proud owner of my very own Tom Bihn bag! After trying out Rob’s a few times (review here), I decided it would be a great bag not only for weekend trips but also for the big international trip we hope to take next year.
After a few hours of researching and debating I chose the Aeronaut 45 in black with ultraviolet lining. For accessories I chose the Packing Cube Backpack in ulstraviolet, one Halcyon End Pocket All Fabric Packing Cube, a Clear Quarter Packing Cube for toiletries and a Gatekeeper Waist Strap. I’ve been borrowing Rob’s Halcyon Packing Cube so pretty soon I will be getting another one of my own.
I made my packing list for the 14 day trip, laid it all out and, with no particular method of packing, was able to fit everything I had wanted to bring. Except my travel blow dryer. I was very impressed. However, the pack was too heavy. I had bought the waist strap in hopes that it would help distribute the weight, but unfortunately it sat too high on my hips to be useful. I dealt with the weight on this trip but I definitely need to practice packing a few more times, cutting unnecessary items each time, so that it isn’t unbearable to wear for more than 5 minutes.
Still a proud owner though and looking forward to all the trips we are taking this year to continue practicing my packing techniques!
