When you haven’t lived in the same city as your BFF for more than a year, weekend bonding trips are imperative. A couple of weeks ago I spent the weekend at The Madonna Inn with mine and it was a great weekend full of deep conversations, catching up, laughter, champagne, relaxing and sunshine. Located between San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach on Hwy 101, The Madonna Inn was built and designed by Alex Madonna in 1958. Each room was designed with a completely different and unique theme. There is the Safari room, the Yahoo room and the completely hot pink Madonna Suite to name a few. We stayed in the Mini Maxi which boasted a king bed, fireplace, and bathroom sinks made completely of stone. The property has a diner, a steakhouse, a bar with live music and dancing every night, a spa, gift shop and fitness center.
I’ll admit it. I assumed The Madonna Inn would be a ghost town that was a bit run down having peaked in the 50s and 60s. But I was very wrong. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the whole resort was always brimming with activity. The bar and steakhouse were packed on Saturday night with both locals and tourists, and the wait for brunch on Sunday was 30 minutes. The pool had a range of relaxers including families, people celebrating birthdays, and girls on a weekend getaway (not just us!).
Our weekend included a massage, cocktails while soaking in the hot tub, burritos, tacos, taquitos and beer by our fireplace, relaxing by the pool with Veuve Clicquot, wine tasting in downtown San Luis Obispo, a scrumptious Asian fusion dinner at Novo-, Magic Mike XXL in our king size bed, brunch in the Silver Bar on Sunday morning, and general conversation and relaxing in between all of that!
It was the perfect girls weekend and I can’t wait until our next weekend getaway and trying out a new room!
