Frustrated by the cost of curtains and throw pillows, I have opted to learn how to make my own! Sewing was a big part of my life growing up. My mom had a sewing group that met periodically and made t-shirt quilts for friends, family, and people who bid on them at school auctions. My aunt made every fabulous and intricate costume my cousin wore for her flamenco dancing. I took classes with friends and learned how to make quilts, pillows, and sleeping bags for my dolls. In college, I took a sewing class and made flannel shorts and a dress. I ended up taking the dress in too much and couldn’t wear it, but I still wear the flannel shorts to bed.
Armed with my mom’s mini Singer sewing machine, fun fabric I found in the LA garment district, and more confidence than I should probably have, I am going to tackle pillow cases, curtains, tablecloths, buttons, and simple mending projects! Since YouTube is the mecca for teaching yourself how to do new things, I am going to start there. I am ready to put all I’ve learned in the past to use again, and pick up some new tricks and lessons along the way.
