Happy Birthday America Rooftop Party!

The Fourth of July has always been one of my favorite holidays. When I was young we would drive up to the water tower near my grandparents’ house in Los Altos and watch the half dozen firework shows we could see from there. Since then I’ve experienced personal fireworks at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz (and I will never be risking my life doing that again), I have watched them in the bed of a pickup truck in a field in NC, and I have watched them over the San Francisco Bay with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. But one of my favorite 4th of Julys was when my family, Rob, and I went to Seabrook, NH and stayed at my aunt and uncle’s beach house. It was so magical celebrating the 4th on the east coast where the Declaration of Independence was signed and America as we know it was born. There were still BBQs and fireworks, but the atmosphere was different than any other place I’ve celebrated the 4th. From morguefile.com

I am excited to be on the east coast again and looking forward to seeing how NYC celebrates. We are throwing a rooftop party for a few friends and my sister will be in town so already the 4th is going to be a great celebration! We’re keeping it simple by using the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, and fireworks as our decorations. We plan to relax on the roof with some cold ones, pork sandwiches, and friends.

  • Pulled Pork Sandwiches
  • Cole Slaw
  • Baked Beans - we are going to go real simple and buy a few cans of Bush’s Baked Beans and heat those up.
  • Dessert - S’mores on a stick!
